On the wild and beautiful west coast of the Isle of Lewis, Dùnan Hotel is a place with stories in its walls.

Long before it welcomed travellers, this building was the village school, where generations of local children learned their lessons overlooking the loch. In later years, it became the much loved Doune Braes Hotel, a resting place for visitors who came to experience the raw beauty and warm spirit of the Outer Hebrides but also the public bar was bursting with local crofters. fishermen and many a village character.

In 2025, we — Gregor Macleod and Douglas Fortune — took on the privilege of writing the next chapter. Gregor grew up on the island and has spent his career in hospitality, always believing that the best hotels feel like home. Douglas, his partner in life and in this adventure, shares that vision of creating a place where everyone feels welcome the moment they step through the door.

Our hope is that Dùnan Hotel feels like a friend’s house by the water — somewhere you can settle by the fire with a dram, enjoy a hearty meal, and wake up to the sound of the wildlife and the wind across the moor.

This is more than a hotel to us. It’s a home. And we can’t wait to share it with you!
